The practical answer
A scatter is a special symbol with rules set for one game. It may pay on any position, start free games or open a separate bonus. Check the exact title's information panel for the required count and eligible reels. One JILI game's scatter rule should never be copied to another title.
Scatter, wild, bonus and multiplier
These labels can appear in the same game, but they do different jobs.
Scatter
May pay outside ordinary line rules or trigger a feature when the required count lands.
Wild
Usually substitutes for eligible ordinary symbols. Any exclusions belong in the paytable.
Bonus
May open a wheel, pick game or another event without using the word scatter.
Multiplier
Changes an eligible result's credited value. It does not substitute for a symbol.
Read the rule before the first spin
A short check prevents assumptions based on artwork or another game you have played.

What a two-scatter near miss tells you
It tells you what appeared on that completed round. It does not supply evidence about the next one.
Reel slowdown
Extra sound or a slower reel is presentation. It is not proof that a trigger is due.
Previous rounds
Repeated near misses do not make the missing scatter more likely on the next random result.
Paid feature
If a feature-buy option exists, read the full peso cost and rules before deciding whether to use it.
Stopping point
A near miss should not move a preset money or time limit.

How many scatters are needed in a JILI game?+
The required count changes by title. Super Ace Deluxe lists three scatters for ten free games, while another game can use a different count or feature.
Do scatter symbols need to be on a payline?+
Often they do not, but the exact position rule belongs to the game's paytable. Some titles can require specific reels.
Can a scatter also be a wild?+
Only when the information panel assigns both functions to that symbol. Do not assume the roles are interchangeable.
Does a two-scatter near miss mean the bonus is due?+
No. The visual sequence does not make a scatter trigger more likely on the next random round.
